Rosemary Warmington is a South Australian painter, born on the River Murray and raised in rural South Australia. Living in Goodwood, a suburb just south of the Adelaide CBD, Rosemary paints from her beautiful garden studio.

Rosemary’s contemporary paintings are drenched in colour, influenced by the natural world – they echo colours and forms seen, remembered or contrived from her travels over time. Extensive travels in both Australia and overseas has provided her with a rich source of inspiration.

Rosemary works through an intuitive process to create her abstract and semi abstract landscapes. Painting with saturated colours and using mixed media, markings, line work, surface scratchings and motifs she creates expressive works. One such motif reflects her abiding interest in mountains and rocks and their form.

‘I want the colours in my paintings to echo within us, to awaken that feeling of ‘aliveness’ that can become hidden and forgotten in our daily grind.’

Although recognised as an artist today, Rosemary’s formal tertiary qualifications are in social work and business. She was for many years the CEO of a not for profit organisation. In 2012, Rosemary was conferred with a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). While in full time employment Rosemary painted on weekends, retiring in 2017 to paint more.

Describing her art development as a life long journey, in 2018 that Rosemary undertook the Art to Life – Creative Visionary Program (USA) under the mentorship of Nicholas Wilton, Californian based international artist.

As an emerging artist, her first major solo exhibition ‘Colour Echoes’ (2021) was at South Australia’s pre-eminent BMGART Gallery, followed by the group exhibition ‘Are you Home Tonight’ at The Main Gallery (2021). Rosemary has consistently exhibited since with both solo and group exhibitions, her work continues to be available via BMG Art.

In 2024 Rosemary was the winner of RSASA’s Solar Art Prize (Section 6). Rosemary’s work has also been selected as a finalist in: the RSSA (Royal South Australian Society for the Arts) Inaugural Abstract Art Prize ‘Essence of Place’ (2023),the West Torrens Art Prize (2020 & 2023), and the GalleryM Contemporary Art Prize (2022).
